After Christopher Nolan ended his Dark Knight Trilogy just a few short years ago, many people thought we would have to wait a little while before we saw Batman return to the big screen. Boy, were they wrong. First we’ll be seeing Ben Affleck portray the Caped Crusader in the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice then in a Justice League movie immediately afterwards and now it’s even rumored that Affleck may even be getting his own Batman solo movie before the decade is out.
With all this anticipation surrounding Batman as of late, it’s only natural to get equally excited about his possible villains. Batman’s adversary list is so massive, well-known and impressive that it’s difficult to even speculate who we might see next. Well today we are going to be focusing on just one villain in particular. Dr. Pamela Lillian Isley, otherwise known as Poison Ivy.
A botanical biochemist, Pamela Isley is a impassioned eco-terrorist out to save the world’s plant life by any means necessary. After being poisoned with the same herb she was trying to protect, she miraculously survives and becomes immune to all manner of toxins and diseases.
Poison Ivy, of course, was portrayed by Uma Thruman in Joel Schumacher’s 1997’s disaster of a film Batman & Robin. Thruman was sexy enough, but she hammed up the performance way more than anybody could have expected. So, while she didn’t necessarily do a bad job, it could have been better. With her flowing red hair, undeniable sex appeal and her ability to make practically any man fall in love with her, we want to see her on the big screen once again. This is five actresses who could play Poison Ivy. Leave your own personal preferences in the comment section below.
5. Bryce Dallas Howard
Howard first gained our attention starring in two dreadful M. Night Shyamalan films, The Village (2004) and then in Lady in the Water (2006). She later dyed her naturally red hair blond to portray Gwen Stacy in the equally dreadful Spider-Man 3. After getting all of her bad films out of the way (oh yeah, Terminator Salvation) the actress went on to prove she really has acting chops. She’ll be starring in the upcoming Jurassic Park movie and she will surely be more of a household name in the future. She also has natural red hair, which certainly isn’t a must, but it doesn’t hurt.
4. Deborah Ann Woll
Again, natural red hair isn’t a must, just look at Deborah Ann Woll, who dyed her naturally blonde hair to red as a youngster and hasn’t looked back since. Watching her play the perpetually teenage vampire Jessica Hamby on HBO’s True Blood for several years has taught us two things. Number one, she can transform from timid to sexy seductress in a millisecond. And two, she can play a complete bad-ass if need be. Qualities Poison Ivy is renowned for.
3. Svetlana Khodchenkova
Svetlana Viktorovna Khodchenkova made her splash in film in Russia before making her blockbuster US debut alongside Hugh Jackman in the 2013 superhero movie The Wolverine. She played Viper, one of the film’s main antagonists, a villain who is actually quite similar to Poison Ivy in a lot of ways. Viper is immune to most toxins, is sexy as hell, and gives deadly poisonous kisses. If you watch the film, you’ll quickly get a sense that Khodchenkova would make an amazing Poison Ivy. Though, this casting choice would be a little too similar to a role she has already played and thus probably the least likely.
2. Eva Green
Eva Green is so sexy that her recent poster for Sin City: A Dame to Kill For was banned by the MPAA. She can get sexy in films like Casino Royale and can show her toughness in films like 300: Rise Of An Empire. Eva’s got those amazing eyes and the perfect body as well. She’s most certainly a great actress who could pull off an evil bitch very satisfactorily. On top of it all, she’d just look amazing with her hair dyed red.
1. Emily Blunt
Emily Blunt has been on fire lately. At one point the actress was seemingly forced to play the token love interest in either lackluster romantic subplots (The Great Buck Howard, The Wolfman) or the prize to be won in films that are, on the face of it, about the central romance but merely tell their story unambiguously from the male’s point of view (Wild Target, The Adjustment Bureau). In this year’s Edge Of Tomorrow, Blunt plays bad-ass Sergeant Rita Vrataski, the “Angel of Verdun” who more than holds her ground alongside co-star Tom Cruise. Blunt has proved she can be soft & delicate and at the same time hard & determined. She would undoubtedly be the perfect actress to play Poison Ivy in the DC cinematic universe. Let’s make this happen!
