Reese Witherspoon proved that she was one of Hollywood’s most promising young talents with her stupendous turn in Alexander Payne’s 1999 drama-comedy, Election. In a pitch-perfect role Witherspoon played Tracy Flick, one of those irritating high school kids that always sat in the front row and always have their hand raised, ready to answer any question the teacher could think to ask. Tracy is one of those fiercely calculating careerist who will stop at nothing to get the main prize. In this case, the main prize is to win the office of student body president at her school.
As you watch the film, you have no choice but to laugh at Witherspoon’s tightly wound Little Miss Perfect, rising at dawn to do her hair and encase herself in a preppy look before baking cupcakes to pass out to potential voters. Meanwhile, her goodie-goodie exterior hides the fact that she’s willing to do just about anything to get ahead.
While promoting her latest film, Hot Pursuit, with co-star Sofía Vergara she was asked what the character was up to nowadays. As you can see in the video below, she’s not exactly sure, but the character would most likely be working in the government. Previously Witherspoon answered this same question with the humorous response: “I think she probably runs the Tea Party now.”
