You can throw out any number of explanations for the enduring popularity of superheroes – the flashy, larger-than-life battles, the never-ending soap opera storylines, the desire of fans to immerse themselves in worlds where good and evil are easily delineated, etc.
Currently we live in a time when the superhero movie’s popularity is at an all time high. Between DC and Marvel alone (more the latter) it feels like something new and exciting is being released every time we turn our heads.
With that being said, today we’d like to take a trip down memory lane with two of our favorite movie critics, Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert, as they review the best (and worst) superhero movies from the ’80s and ’90s. Said films include: Supergirl (1984), Batman (1989), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990), Sgt. Kabukiman N.Y.P.D. (1990), The Mask (1994), Barb Wire (1996), Spawn (1997), and Blade (1998). Enjoy!
